Thomas Van Puymbroeck, based out of Belgium, is an award-winningphotographer. His passion for underwater photography began over 10 yearsago. Growing up he was already passionate about the underwater life. Eventhough he graduated as multimedia graphic designer, he pursued his dreamjob at the local public aquarium in Antwerp.
Working there he had to take a diving course. After his first few dives he knew for sure: he wanted to take pictures. Because photography is his way of showing the wonders ofthe underwater world. Besides the beauty it is also his way of makingpeople aware, of making them see a world too few people are exposed to andurgently needs our protection.
Together with his wife he travel the worldin search of the most beautiful diving spots, capturing these uniquemoments, places and animals.
He is often referred to as one of the Belgian shark ambassadors. Everyyear millions of sharks are killed out of fear or simple profit . Thomas’spurpose in life is to make people conscious of the need to protect thesemagnificent creatures, to learn more about them, … instead of killingthem…
Sharks play such an important role in the oceans, they are at the top ofthe food chain in virtually every part of every ocean. In that role, theykeep populations of other fish healthy and ecosystems intact. Only anOcean full of sharks is a healthy ocean.
You may have come across his pictures in a calendar of National Geographicor in one of the national and international diving magazines. Since 2018he is Olympus Visionary. He works with the Olympus OMD EM1 II and theOlympus OMD EM5 II.
When in Belgium and Holland you may bump into him in the Eastern Scheldt.Although he has travelled and dived many tropical waters, his absolutefavorite dive site is the one closest to home. Ask him about the diversityunder water and macro life possibilities. He will amuse you for hours withpictures and fun facts about the marine life.
