E-M1 Mark II • M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm PRO • 1:20 • 1/40s • ISO 200
I wanted to test the OM-D E-M1 Mark II in Tibet which was my source of inspiration when I began my life as a professional photographer about forty years ago and to where I have since returned every year. Equipped with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II I went into the Tibetan regions of Qinghai in China to marvel at the verdant high mountain pastures, from passes at 5000 meters, under turquoise skies interspersed with scattered clouds like colourful flags floating in the wind that delivered prayers of relief.
Thanks to the new OM-D and its range of compact lenses, I enjoyed being able to move around lightly from one mountain to the next with just a bag over my shoulder that weighed less than three kilos. What pure joy!
True to my usual style, I tried to emphasise the insignificance of a shepherd’s tent and a herd of yaks snuggled up at the foot under the large, dense shadows of the mountains, to remind us of humility which is one of the essential qualities of Tibetan Buddhism. The OM-D E-M1 Mark II allowed me to surpass my usual approach to taking photos. I appreciated its very effective tracking functions and the 60 images/second shot capability (an unmatched achievement), the touch sensitive screen and the Wifi function that allowed me to imagine different styles of shots.
It’s hard to imagine a more complete camera. In my opinion, the E-M1 Mark II and its lenses open the doors to the future to a new era of photography for demanding professionals. This incredible camera combines the best features of the E-M5 Mark II and the E-M 1 and I could best sum it up in two words - creativity and freedom.
